Our Training & Events

The five-day Foundation course may be taken as a stand-alone course and also forms Part I of the 20-day Diploma in The Living Well Dying Well Person-Centred Approach to Death and Dying.  The full training generally takes between 18 months to two years to complete.  Courses are externally monitored and certified by Crossfields Institute and the full Diploma has been awarded the Crossfields Institute Quality Mark

Once your booking is confirmed for the Foundation course we will send an Enrolment Form which includes a request for a personal statement to explain your motivation for joining the course and we also request a photo for our records.  The Learner's Handbook and Crossfields Programme Guide are issued to each Learner before the course.  There are no entry requirements, although if you have been recently bereaved we would want to discuss the timing of your entry on the course. Our FAQs should be able to answer most questions but do feel free to contact us if you require further information. Due to our current training resource, learners who wish to progress to Parts II and III of the training must be prepared to travel to main training venue in East Sussex to do so.

Course fees currently for the Foundation course are £625 (includes Crossfields CPD registration fee), for Part II Diploma £830 (early bird £780 - booked 10 weeks before the start of the course) and for Part III Diploma £1,020 (early bird £970 - booked 10 weeks before the start of the course).  The Diploma fees include the Crossfields Diploma registration fee for those completing Parts II and III.

The Foundation course: Introduction to a Person-Centred Approach to Death and Dying is taken over five-days in two sessions 3 days + 2 days, allowing time for reflection between sessions. Before booking a place please ensure that you can commit to all the dates and keep them free of other commitments.  It is important that you complete the course in one cohort as it is experiential learning.  It forms Part I of the 20-day Diploma in The Living Well Dying Well Person-Centred Approach to Death and Dying. The Foundation may also be taken as a stand-alone course. All learners receive a CPD (Continuous Professional Development) certificate on completion of the five days.

Following the introductory Foundation course, in order to progress to the full Diploma (Parts II & III) in the Living Well Dying Well Person-Centred Approach to Death and Dying, you will be required to successfully complete a progression assignment before enrolling onto the Diploma.  On successful completion you will receive a Progression Statement.

The assignment consists of a short ‘case study’ scenario with personal reflections.  This is designed to provide evidence of learning and understanding from your Foundation course, as well as your preparedness for the next part of the programme.  Towards the end of the Foundation course, your trainer will outline the rest of the programme.

A member of the team will contact you after completing the Foundation to check whether you would like to express an interest in going forward.  You will be supported throughout the assignment process by an allocated assessor.

We don’t expect everyone to progress, many people find the Foundation gives them sufficient confidence to support family members for example.  It is also possible to defer your progression on to the Diploma for up to 2 years.

There is no formal assessment between Parts II and III.

Please note, due to our current training resource, learners wishing to progress to Parts II and III must be prepared to travel to East Sussex to do so.

The Diploma in the Living Well Dying Well Person-Centred Approach to Death and Dying is made up of three courses delivered over a 20-day programme. The Diploma course Part II provides additional six days training after the Foundation course and is only open to Learners who have received their Progression Statement.  The course is taken in two sessions of 3 days + 3 days allowing time for reflection between sessions.
